When the Personal is Transformational

Caitlin Ryan, PhD, ACSW is a clinical social worker, educator and researcher who has worked on LGBT health and mental health for more than 40 years and whose work on LGBT health has shaped policy and practice for LGBT and gender diverse children and youth. She directs the Family Acceptance Project (FAP) at SF State University – the first research, education, intervention and policy project – to help ethnically and religiously diverse families to support their LGBT children. Anandrea Molina

Director of OLTT and Casa Anandrea

Director of Organziacion de Latinas Trans en Texas and Casa Anandrea

Anandrea Molina is the founder of the Organización Latina Trans en Texas (OLTT). This organization was initially created after a group of trans women were unjustly expelled from a women’s bathroom and as the result of suffering and witnessing firsthand experiences of disparities in the Trans Latinx community. In the brief period of three years, it has not only established the first trans and queer shelter in Houston but also advocates for immigrant LGBTQI people held in detention centers, and creates a space to educate, advocate and form leaders. In this presentation, Anandrea will share details of her personal life as an undocumented trans immigrant from Mexico who now dedicates her life to bring equality and justice to a marginalized community. Her inspirational story will inform you of the ongoing disparities existing within her community and also motivate and empower you to also advocate and seek justice alongside the LGBTQI Latinx people she represents.

Houston, TX, October 5-6 - SAVE THE DATE! Gender Infinity is excited to announce our 8th annual conference which will take place on Friday, October 5 and Saturday, October 6, 2018 at the University of Houston. This conference offers education, support, and resources for and by the transgender community. The event has workshops for everyone: trans communities of all ages, their families, significant others, medical and mental health professionals, and advocates.

Given high rates of discrimination, health inequities, and gaps in supportive services available to trans communities and their families, this conference provides much needed training and information to facilitate gender affirmative approaches to care informed by the latest research. Ranging from beginner to advanced levels, workshops are designed to meet participants where they are in their knowledge, skill, and personal gender journey.

The program includes trans led discussions, local and national expert presentations, parent panel discussions, collaborative case consultation, and youth programming for teens, tweens, and kids. Continuing education is available for physicians, psychologists, social workers, licensed professional counselors, and marriage and family therapists.

The two-day event is an opportunity for trans communities of all ages to unite, build relationships across generations, and collaborate with providers. This conference’s inclusion of all ages, including gender diverse kids, makes it unique to this region of the United States.
