LGBTQ+ Youth and Ableism

Presented by: Bethany Gehman
While LGBTQ+ youth face numerous challenges with discovering their identity and finding their place in the world, LGBTQ+ youth with disabilities, particularly Deaf, experience uphill challenges with their intersectionality identities and access to LGBTQ+ resources and support. As a Deaf sex educator and LGBTQ+ advocate, Bethany will explore various daily struggles Deaf LGBTQ+ youth with disabilities endure in academic, home, and social settings. In this workshop, participants will identify lasting psychological and emotional impacts on LGBTQ+ youth with disabilities in order to develop, enhance, and maintain environments that are safe, welcoming and supportive. Creating safe and inclusive zones is a proactive step that everyone can take to empower LGBTQ+ youth with different abilities to reach their full potential.
