Sylvester Neal, a native Texan, and his late wife took custody of their two grandchildren at the ages of three and five years old in 2009.
Since his eldest grandchild transitioned in 2010, Sylvester has been a strong advocate for his granddaughter and all transgender children. He has attended and participated in four Gender Odyssey conferences, spoken at rallies in support of legislative bathroom issues and is active in a local parent support group.
Sylvester has over over 30 years in military and public service and is a 34-year member of Kiwanis International, a service organization focusing on the care, health, and wellbeing of children. He is very active in his Baptist church where he is currently a Deacon.
